Missoni Home have just launched their hotly anticipated 2017 Collection at Maision et Objet, Paris. Presenting new boundaries in colour, the latest home collection from the Italian fashion house plays with shades and lintels hues, creating a sophisticated and conceptual range for the modern interior. The 2017 Collection brings a total of ten new design ranges, with refreshed classic patterns such as the iconic zigazag, alongside new jacquards with gleams of metallic silver and copper minerals blended with soft pastels.
Inspired to reflect the magical tones of dreams, colours are utilised to maximum impact, fading and morphing like a watercolour. Hues of the sunrise and sunset, blue and pink twilight and the mysterious northern lights are used as influences throughout the latest designs. Botanical prints are another key feature to this latest collection, sitting alongside Nordic influences and intricate decorative fabrics.
Within the Nordic Fantasy range the icy tones and pure colours create an atmosphere reminiscent of distant travels among the tundra. Flowers, berries, leaves and dandelions play together in a botanical frame. Colours burst with spontaneity, and the chosen patterns or Nordic tapestries and mosaic tiles decorate soft jacquard fabrics. The Nordic Fantasy palette includes new shades for Missoni such as strong brushstrokes of glacial blue, bark brown and cranberry.
New beginnings are always a theme within Missoni Home’s annual collections, hence the frequent appearance of botanical patterns, and this year one of their ranges is aptly named Springtime. Here the colours and patterns are alive with multiple intensities; Hellebore flowers are celebrated, their petals emphasised with kaleidoscopic outlines. Embellished percale bed sheets meet with a symphony of vertical stripes across jacquard viscose looped velvet. A vibrant rainbow striped rug is the perfect accompaniment, or the energetic multi-coloured zigzags of another rug design will work equally well to bring the range together within a room set.
Rose Garden presents a collection of flame retardant fabrics featuring wild roses as the focus. Painted like a watercolour and printed on satin chine, these fabrics are ideal to cover sofas or as sheer curtains. The refreshed mood is completed with intense strong solid stripes; strong motifs are complemented by a soft consistent textured plain jacquard and the natural rustic feel of coarse jacquard in hay and brown tones.
With each new collection Missoni Home also release designs for outdoor use, ideal for those looking to continue their style journey into the garden, boat or poolside. This year sees Master Moderno as the range with outdoor and indoor suited fabrics, cushions and poufs. A dominate part of this range is the powerful zigzag pattern, which boldly contrasts and brightens the poufs and in the waterproof outdoor version it’s the ideal covering for a multitude of seating. It has a place everywhere, wandering indoors, in the bedroom on percale bed sheets, on fringed wool throws to velour towels. Back outdoors; strong graduated vibrant striped fabric juxtaposes minuscule 3D trompe l’oeil fabric whilst bath and beach towels are enriched by a new weightlessness.
In keeping with the springtime botanicals the new Geranium range speaks for itself. Lush blooms of geraniums blossoms in enamelled porcelain tones features across intricate cotton and lurex fabric, and on a hand-tufted wool rug, like a round flowerbed. Complementing this are a lively cotton/lurex jacquard fabric in soft pastel and copper tones, with a delicate lattice of trompe l’oeil that softens the bright background tones and bright symphony of stripes in looped velvet on an ivory base. As always, Missoni Home have ensured that textures are taken seriously, as a key element of any interior style.
Copper reflections triumph within the floral composition of the very contemporary Copper Geranium range. Digitally printed cotton satin and fringed wool throws are great accent pieces, and are accompanied by the charm of shaded geometries in twilight tones on jacquard fabric.
Metallic and mineral tones are also a prominent feature within the Silver Springtime range. Enriched with contrasting shades, the Hellebore petals make another appearance, graphic in their interpretation. Standing out in this range we see chevrons, like silver lighting, on a shaded grey background and with tiny dark zigzags and metallic accents, blurred on jacquard. The geometry takes a faint and mesmerising form on a merino wool throw, and among these iridescence, is the placid and welcoming blue of the laser treated viscose/cotton velvet.
As we have come to expect from Mission, at the very core of their home collections are the fabrics. Always of the very highest quality, 2017 sees a great contrast of velours and sateens, encouraging the play of fabrics against bold colours and patterns. With each new year and collection Missoni Home continue to cement themselves at the very pinnacle of interior style.
